How to Effectively Control the Moisture Content in the Production of Solid Wood Furniture?

Pulished on Oct. 19, 2020

Moisture content control is an important part of solid wood furniture production and processing, and it is also difficult to control. However, as long as production is reasonably arranged and corresponding measures are taken, satisfactory results can be achieved. Solid wood bending machine factory shares with you.

In the pursuit of environmental protection and health, solid wood furniture has the advantages of high weight ratio, beautiful texture, moisture and temperature adjustment, nature, and no chemical pollution. It meets the psychological needs of modern urbanites for advocating nature and is favored by consumers.

However, solid wood furniture has problems such as deformation, component warpage, loose joint parts, and structural failure during use, which seriously affect the quality and service life of the product.

Due to the different humidity in the north and south of my country, the requirements for the moisture content of wood are also different.

For example, in the north, the average annual moisture content of wood in Beijing is 11.8%, and the lowest is 9.3%. Therefore, if the furniture produced in the south is to be shipped and used in the north, attention should be paid to controlling the moisture content of the furniture.

For the export of solid wood furniture, customers require a higher moisture content. Polished solid wood furniture requires a moisture content of no more than 8%, and non-polished solid wood furniture requires a moisture content of no more than 10%, which is higher than the partial equilibrium moisture content required by the national standard (about 15%) to be difficult.

However, in the furniture production process, wood is exposed to the atmosphere, so how to control the moisture content within the range we need?

Wood drying is the source of moisture content control. Only when the drying moisture content reaches the required wood standard, can it be effectively controlled during processing. The textures in hardwood are mostly not smooth, and the movement of water is very slow. Therefore, the moisture content of the surface, and the inner layer of the wood is very different. In general, the initial moisture content of polished furniture wood is controlled within 6%, and the initial moisture content of non-polished furniture wood is controlled within 8%. In this way, the drying stress in the timber library can be eliminated, and the moisture content can be smoothed.

It is best to close doors and windows for processing on rainy days, and open doors and windows for ventilation on sunny days. This can reduce the humidity of the air in the processing workshop, thereby slowing down the moisture absorption rate of the wood.

HF Vacuum Timber Dryer

Nowadays, the advancement of science and technology has brought many new technologies to the wood processing industry. Wood drying also has the latest high-frequency vacuum drying wood technology. High-frequency drying technology has many advantages that traditional drying methods do not have.

The high-frequency vacuum drying technology greatly shortens the drying time of wood, and through the control of intelligent equipment, the moisture content of the wood is also well controlled. The HF vacuum timber dryer can not only dry ordinary wood but also For the drying treatment of precious and high-quality wood such as mahogany, it can even be said that the use of high-frequency drying technology is equivalent to having a key that can control the moisture content of the wood.
